BF Home and School Association

The HSA supports BF activities and provides additional enrichment to the school program. We encourage parental involvement at all levels. You make it possible for the HSA to promote the welfare of all students, maximizing opportunities for their physical, mental, and social development.

HSA meetings are held each month.  These meetings are open to all BF parents/guardians. We encourage all to attend.

We are always in need of volunteers.  Our volunteer sign-up form can be found below in the "Flyers" folder. Help us help the BF community!

WINTER WONDERLAND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Dear BFMS 7th and 8th grade parents,

The BFMS 8th Grade Winter Wonderland Dance is just a month away on January 27th!

In order to make this event a success, we have a variety of parent volunteer positions to fill, some to be done onsite, at a particular time and some in advance or on your own schedule.

While this dance is attended by BFMS 8th graders, exclusively, we ask 7th grade parents to volunteer for the positions that require attending the dance, like stocking the refreshment tables and running the coat check, so that we do not have any children suffering the horror of seeing their parents while trying to socialize with their friends. We have found that this system works very well, and your participation this year will save your children the humiliation next year as we ask the next grade parents to step up.

8th Grade parents, please heartily volunteer for any position that is not designated for 7th grade parents. If the job you would like has no vacancies left, please do not hesitate to add another line or contact the chair ladies directly to submit your name. You're going to do a lot more laughing if your bestie is volunteering along side you, so be sure to add them to the list, as well!

Please open this Google Doc to see the date, time and place for each open position.

BF YEARBOOK

I have been getting lots and lots of questions about the BF yearbook. Unlike at the elementary schools, the yearbook is not run through the HSA at BF but instead by the school. Please reach out to the office with any yearbook questions.

FRIENDS OF BF CAMPAIGN LAUNCH

We kicked off our Friends of BF Campaign yesterday. Hopefully you all saw and read the e-mail but here it is again, just in case :)

Dear BF Families and Friends,

Welcome to the Friends of BFMS Fundraising Campaign for 2016-2017. The mission of the Friends of BFMS is to raise funds to enhance the educational experience of all students at Benjamin Franklin Middle School. The Friends of BFMS Committee works with our principal, Mr. Orsini, to identify worthy expenditures that are not funded through other channels in the district school system. This is our only school-wide fundraiser each year.

Last year, your generous Friends of BFMS contributions & a grant from the Ridgewood Education Foundation allowed our students to enjoy:

  • Upgraded microscopes and lab tables
  • A 3D printer
  • 7 short-throw projectors for math and science classrooms
  • First Annual STEM Day

Our first STEM day was a great success, giving our students several STEM learning experiences of the type that we hope to bring into the classroom in the future. They used a 3-D printer to create models, experimented with the power of earthquakes using Jell-O simulations, and designed and built towers and bridges using simple materials. The day featured many other activities as well, including meeting with a visiting author and a lively presentation that explored Newton’s Laws of Motion by the Liberty Science Center.

Our goal for the 2016-2017 Friends of BF campaign is to raise $25,000 to support BF STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) initiatives including an exciting pilot program called Exploratory. Exploratory will provide an opportunity for our students to self-learn a subject of interest with a small group facilitated by a teacher. Some examples of learning opportunities can include coding, woodworking, and song writing.

The average Friends of BFMS donation in 2015-2016 was approximately $100 but any donation is appreciated. Donations can be made by going to our PayPal page https://www.paypal.com/cgi- bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick& hosted_button_id=BXNMFV7T6NJMQ . Please check with your employer to see if they provide a Company Match. As always, your gift is tax deductible as BFHSA is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Thank you for your continued generosity and support. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at friendsofbfms@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

The Friends of BFMS and BFMS STEM Committees
